Toyota Issues Recall Of 7 Million Cars Worldwide For Faulty Window Switch

In one of its biggest recalls yet, Toyota is recalling 7.43 million vehicles from around the United States, Japan and Europe — all because of a faulty power-window switch in about a dozen models that didn’t get greased up enough when the cars were built. That could cause friction in the switch and at times, even smoke.

There haven’t been any injuries or crashes reported due to the defect, reports the Associated Press, but more than 200 problems have already been reported in the U.S., along with other incidences elsewhere.

The cars being recalled in America are: the Yaris, Corolla, Matrix, Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Tundra, Sequoia and Scion models xB and xD, for a total of 2.47 million vehicles.

In Japan, 460,000 vehicles are being recalled and Europe has 1.39 million total on the list as well. There are even some cars being recalled in Australia, China, elsewhere in Asia and in the Middle East.

In recent years, Toyota’s reputation has taken quite a hit after a series of recalls totaling about 14 million vehicles. Most memorably in the U.S. was the recall involving floor mats that caused some accelerator pedals to be stuck down and make it difficult or sometimes impossible for drivers to stop the car.
