Second American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing Due To Pesky Loose Seats

Just a few days after an American Airlines flight bound for Miami from Boston was forced to make an emergency landing due to a row of unbolted seats, another flight had to do the very same thing yesterday morning. The American Airlines flight from NYC’s John F. Kennedy International Airport was on its way to Miami as well, when it had to go back to the airport less than an hour later when three seats in row 14 went all loosey-goosey after takeoff.

But that’s not all! The New York Post revealed that the first time this loose seat problem popped up was on a flight from Vail, Colo. to Dallas on Sept. 26.

American Airlines says there could be about eight planes with seat problems, all told, and has brought in a team of mechanics from its maintenance base in Tulsa to check things out on the 757s. The seats “became loose much like the flight that happened on Saturday,” confirmed an AA spokeswoman. “They seem to become loose on the track that holds them to the fuselage.”

The Federal Aviation Administration is taking this quite seriously and has launched an investigation reports the NYP, while adding that the two most recent planes involved had recently undergone maintenance during which the seats had been removed and reinstalled.”
