Florida Library Gives In To Public Demand For "Porn" Reverses Ban On 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'

As any woman gabbing with her pals will tell you, Fifty Shades of Grey is the book to read right now if you want a little ah, mental stimulation, even if the writing is far from fine literature. But although a Florida Library recently responded to the “mommy porn” craze by removing the series from its shelves, it seems the readers have spoken, and demanded it be returned.

The Brevard County Library System originally said its decision to ban the books from its shelves was because it had not met its “selection criteria,” reported the Palm Beach Post News earlier in May.

“Nobody asked us to take it off the shelves. But we bought some copies before we realized what it was. We looked at it, because it’s been called ‘mommy porn’ and ‘soft porn.’ We don’t collect porn,” said the library services director at the time.

But now, local readers will once again have access to the 19 various books available through the library, due to public demand, says a press release on the library’s site, via Gawker.

The Brevard County Library System will return “Fifty Shades of Grey” to its library shelves.

The decision is in response to public demand, but also comes after considerable review and consideration by the library system. In all, 19 books from the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy that were previously available will once again be available through the library system, according to Library Services Director Cathy Schweinsberg.

Earlier this month, a decision was made to pull “Fifty Shades of Grey” from our libraries as a result of published reviews and our own initial analysis of the book and its controversial content. Since then, we have begun a review of our selection criteria and that review continues even as the decision has been made to supply the book in response to requests by county residents.

“We have always stood against censorship,” Schweinsberg said. “We have a long history of standing against censorship and that continues to be a priority for this library system.”

The books are available effective immediately.

Get it while it’s hot, ladies. And before the waiting list becomes ridiculously long.
