Have New Domain Names Outed U.S. Airways & American Airlines' Merger Plans?

This is like finding out your friend is getting married because you inadvertently see them browsing for reception halls or wedding DJs. If a slew of recently registered website domain names are to be believed, the much-hinted merger between American Airlines and U.S. Airways might be closer to reality than merely mulling over a dream pre-nup.

The editors at DomainNameWire.com say that a third-party company specializing in domain name protection registered the following names last Friday:

american-usairways.com, .net, and .org
americanairlinesusairways.com, .net, and .org
americanusairways.net
usairways-american.com, .net, and .org
usairwaysamerican.com, .net, and .org
usairwaysamericanairlines.com, .net, and .org
usandaa.com, .net, and .org
aadvantageofus.com, .net, and .org
advantageofus.com, .net, and .org
oneworldoneairline.com, .net, and .org

U.S. Airways did confess its amorous intentions in January when it said it had “retained (investment bankers) Barclays Capital and Millstein & Co., and (law firm) Latham & Watkins LLP to help us explore our options as they relate to AMR’s bankruptcy,” which is business code for, “We are so totally in love with American and want to have little Boeing babies with it.”

Only time will tell if this merger ever materializes, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for our save-the-date.
