Google Will Beam Information Directly Into Your Eyeballs With New Glasses

Apparently Google doesn’t think smartphones are distraction enough, because they’re reportedly working on glasses that would stream information on the go into wearers’ eyeballs in real time. We foresee a lot of people walking into walls.

The New York Times cites Google employees who say the goggles will cost about $350-$600 and will go on sale by the end of the year.

The people familiar with the Google glasses said they would be Android-based, and will include a small screen that will sit a few inches from someone’s eye. They will also have a 3G or 4G data connection and a number of sensors including motion and GPS.

One blogger who has been on the case of these glasses says they’ll have a nifty navigation system that will let the wearer tilt their heads to scroll and click. So besides walking into walls, we’ll all be stumbling around cocking our heads like a bunch of fools. Excellent.

It gets even more Jestonsesque — the goggles will have a built-in camera that checks out your world in real time and then overlays information about where you are, friends that might be in the area and other pertinent stuff. You’re not supposed to wear them constantly, but come on, you know you’re going to want to be all Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: Next Generation, all the time.
