Like all art, photography requires the acquisition of some skills: not just an understanding of what makes a great photograph and a good eye, but also a solid understanding of how equipment works and what it’s capable of. Not according to camera maker Nikon, though. The person in charge of the company’s Facebook page managed to annoy an awful lot of photographers by implying that better lenses, not skill, is all that you need to take a great photo.

At least that’s what many Nikon fans read into it, leaving 2,196 comments as of this writing. You be the judge:

A photographer is only as good as the equipment he uses, and a good lens is essential to taking good pictures! Do any of our facebook fans use any of the NIKKOR lenses? Which is your favorite and what types of situations do you use it for?

“Basically they are saying ‘Your Skills Are Irrelevant’,” notes tipster Tom. Well, that, or “it’s hard to take a good picture with the wrong lens.”
