How does a blind guy tell the difference between a fifty and a dollar bill in his pocket? In this video, blind man Tommy Edison shows his method.

Basically he stacks the bills on top top of each other in descending order. So 50’s on top, then 5’s, then 1’s, and he has to memorize their order. He also has to trust a lot that vendors aren’t going to see his disability and rip him off.

It’s interesting that the Americans With Disabilities act forced all these businesses to accommodate people who were in wheelchairs, blind, and the like, but the law doesn’t apply to our monetary supply. There’s really no built-in way for blind people to know whether a bill they’re touching is a five or a hundred.
