AT&T U-Verse Drops ESPN 3D

Citing low demand and a high cost, AT&T U-Verse has ditched ESPN 3D from its lineup. The move is yet another sign that 3D TV may not be the wave of the near future, as the expensive technology struggles to make headway in the marketplace.

Engadget reports AT&T made the move just before a ballyhooed 3D broadcast of the X-Games, which apparently still exist. Previously, AT&T charged subscribers $10 extra a month to get ESPN 3D, but now customers will need to find another provider if they want the channel.

For now, the cable provider is hanging on to its 3D video on demand offerings.
