Skin Experts: Sunburns During Childhood Double Risk Of Skin Cancer

In case you needed any more reason to protect your kids from the sun, skin care experts say sunburns in childhood and adolescence double victims’ chances of suffering skin cancer later in life.

UPI relays tips from University of Michigan Health system dermatologists applicable to all ages, but particularly children, including:

*Try to keep kids out of the sun during peak periods, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

*Apply sunscreen 15 minutes to half an hour before kids go out in the sun.

*For babies aged six months and younger, avoid sunscreen entirely and use hats and clothing to block them from the sun instead.

What steps do you take to shield yourself and loved ones from the sun?
