Judge Dismisses College Athletes' Case Against EA

As far as the justice system is concerned, EA Sports is allowed to continue using rough approximations of player likenesses in its college sports games.

Kotaku reports a U.S. District judge’s ruling gave the former Arizona State quarterback who filed the suit the all-too-familiar taste of defeat. Along with a former UCLA basketball player, the ex-quarterback contended that the EA Sports, the NCAA and Collegiate License Committee conspired to trick athletes into signing away their licenses.

The judge threw out the claim against EA Sports, so the publisher can continue its policy of using vague lookalikes for players in its NCAA Football games — its college hoops franchise has been discontinued — with accurate jersey numbers. The athletes’ case continues against the NCAA and CLC.
