Verizon To Warn iPhone Buyers: We're Watching You!

After consumer uproar over the fact that Apple’s iPhones can record and store users’ locations, Verizon Wireless says it’s going to warn potential customers of such acts, via a handy little sticker. Neat.

Verizon announced the sticky warning news in a response to Representatives Ed Markey, a Democrat from Massachusetts, and Joe Barton, a Texas Republican, who had asked in a letter for Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint how and why they track mobile location data, reports CNNMoney.

Each company was like, yeah, we store data for awhile, but only Verizon has offered to warn consumers. The sticker will be on all new devices, henceforth, and it warns:

“This device is capable of determining its (and your) physical, geographical location and can associate this location data with other customer information. To limit access to location information by others, refer to the User Guide for Location settings and be cautious when downloading, accessing or using applications and services.”

Verizon also says it stores location data and other info for seven years, while Sprint save it for three, AT&T from anywhere between a few days and five years, and T-Mobile has stayed mum.
