Apple Tells Congress It "Must Have" Controversial User Location Data

Responding to concerns about its iPhone/3G iPad location tracking, Apple sent a letter to Congress explaining why it needs to collect the info.

International Business Times reports Apple’s general counsel, answering a June 2010 congressional letter to CEO Steve Jobs inquiring about the company’s privacy policy and location-based services, wrote that Apple “must have access to the comprehensive location-based information” to help it better serve customers.

While failing to confirm whether devices sent the info to the company, the lawyer said it was Apple’s right to do so, contending that users agree share the info in the End User Agreement.

Does Apple’s location sharing faze you? Do you think the company needs the data to serve you better?
