Google Voice App Finally Hits iPhone

After a long and windy road, the Google Voice app is now available on iPhone. You can make international calls for cheap, send free text messages, and have your Google Voice number show up on people’s caller ID’s when you call. No more of that pesky mobile site workaround business.

(Hint: if you have trouble finding it in the apps screen, search for Google Voice and hit “more”)

I’m not seeing it in my app store, actually. I see Google Mobile and Google Earth but not Voice. Hopefully it’ll pop up soon.

Btw, it works as long as your iPhone has iOS 3.1 or later.

I had trouble finding it.. either search for google-voice or just click “more” at the bottom.. and possible “more” again.. you’ll find it eventually.

If you can, download it from a computer, I just did

      • pecan 3.14159265 says:

I can’t because the computer I’m on doesn’t have iTunes.

        • nbs2 says:

Just go to on your phone and use the direct iTunes link. It will take you to the App Store on your phone for download.

Clever. I found it, though. I searched for “google-voice” and it was the only result.

It will also show up if you search for googlevoice as one word instead of 2.

I’ve been using it a bit this afternoon, seems to work well.

  3. nbs2 says:

Not there yet (searching on my iPhone).

If you can’t find it on iPhone, email yourself the link to iTunes and then click on the link on the iPhone. It will take you to the product page in the App Store. It’s what I did.

I love google voice…I use it as my “give away” number (businesses, banks, contests, etc…) It’s like pushing the “ignore call” button without having to push it each time, and if it’s important, a nice transcript of the voice mail goes into my inbox.

Cannot be used on iPod Touch, even 4g which can use voice and text with other programs.

      what? that sucks

    • Oranges w/ Cheese says:

That’s because its not a Voip app like skype, it just spoofs your GV number over the actual call through AT&T’s network. There are ways to get around it but it involves jailbreaking, etc.

I just did this on my Android phone and its pretty win. There’s a crazy lag but hey I get reception in my basement now.

Yes, FINALLY it’s available for the iPhone… a week ago.

I hope the iPhone version is better than the Android version. It’s junk… notifications don’t show up for hours sometimes.

Still uses your minutes though ;)

  11. human_shield says:

Meh, it’s not even voip. Pointless. I want video Skype!

I do not have an iPhone and as was mentioned it’s not available on my iPod Touch so I don’t know if what I am about to say is true, but another site said it cannot be found under google voice on the store. You actually have to search for googlevoice to find it.
