Donna Summer Strikes Back At Wendy's Over "So Horny" Lyric

Over the weekend, we wrote about Wendy’s decision to pull a disco compilation CD included in kids’ meals because of supposed suggestive lyrics in a Donna Summer song. But now the disco diva is coming out swinging against the fast food chain, saying Wendy’s has burger grease in its ears.

According to Wendy’s some eagle-eared (yes, I know that’s not a phrase; hush up) listeners complained that Ms. Summer sings at one point in the song, “When I’m bad, I’m so, so horny.”

There then began to circulate reports that Wendy’s had used the “adult version” of the song and not the clean radio edit they had intended.

Except, says Donna, not only did she never sing the word “horny” at any point in “Last Dance,” there has never been a so-called adult version of the tune.

Taking to her website, Summer declared:

These comments are entirely false… I have performed ‘Last Dance’ for many years, singing the one and only version, exactly as written. My original recorded version of this classic song was licensed by Wendy’s from Universal Music. Any false representations to the contrary not only defame the memory of (songwriter Paul) Jabara, but show a lack of care for the truth and respect for my career and the feelings of my audience.

The official lyric for the song is “When I’m bad, I’m so, so bad,” a refrain that is repeated four times. It is the last of these four that is under scrutiny, as it’s unclear exactly what is being sung.

Whatever its lyric, “Last Dance” was good enough for both the Academy Award and Golden Globe voters, as it won Best Original Song for the 1978 movie Thank God It’s Friday.
