Mets Sing 'Take Me Out To The Upsell'

Anthony wants a ticket to see the Mets host the Yankees at Citi Field, and is annoyed that the Mets will only sell him tickets in groups of five or more. He sent us his email exchange with a CSR:

Me:
Please explain to me why I have to buy five tickets to just see the Mets vs. Yankees games but can’t buy a single game ticket?
-Anthony

Ticket_Services@nymets.com:
Anthony,
Thank you for your e-mail. Unfortunately tickets for the Mets vs. Yankees series are currently unavailable unless you’re interested in purchasing a plan or pack. There is no information released regarding the sale of single game tickets for the Subway Series. More information regarding the sale of these tickets will be released in the prior weeks to the series. Please check back with us at a later date, or check on Mets.com for updated information.

Me:
As a loyal fan that is unacceptable. I want to purchase a good ticket now, not deal with some mediocre ticket down the line or pay an atrocious amount as game time approaches to get a good seat.

Ticket_Services@nymets.com:
Anthony,
We understand your loyalty. No tickets other than the ones sold to our Plan and Pack holders have gone on sale. Once tickets become available to the general public, you should be able to purchase the tickets you’re looking for without a problem.

Me:
I’m going to be blunt with you. That is a horrible practice. The fact that I have to buy four extra tickets to get a guaranteed good seat ticket right now is horse shit. To be honest you have just turned me off from buying a ticket for the rest of the season (which I can freely do even for the Subway series at Yankee stadium because they don’t suck I guess). Don’t worry it is not your fault that the team is sucking (I must have been crazy to want to buy a ticket to support you guys).

Unloading extra tickets to a sporting event that will undoubtedly be a hot ticket wouldn’t be a problem for Anthony, but the fact that the Yankees-Mets games will be in demand is all the more reason why it makes little sense that the Mets are behaving so boorishly.
