Time Warner Launching WiFi Hotspots In NYC

Earlier today, Time Warner Cable announced their plan for placing WiFi hotspots in NYC that will be free to subscribers of their Road Runner internet service.

In their announcement, TWC said the WiFi zones would include:

* Eight commuter rail platforms on the Long Island Railroad Port Washington line: Woodside, Flushing Main Street, Murray Hill, Broadway, Auburndale, Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck;

* Manhattan: Bryant Park, Madison Square Park and 79th Street Boat Basin;

* Four parks in Queens: Bowne Park and Kissena Park in Flushing, Baisley Pond Park and Railroad Park in Jamaica.

Road Runner customers using laptops and WiFi-enabled phones can access the WiFi by entering their Road Runner ID and password when prompted.

The zones are a joint venture between Time Warner and Cablevision, which began offering its customers access to free WiFi in NYC two years ago. Road Runner subscribers will have access to existing Cablevision WiFi hotspots and Cablevision internet subscribers will now be able to access the new Time Warner spots.

Verizon offers very limited access to Boingo Wireless’s network for some of their Fios subscribers.
