Official announcement:

“Students can register attend Consumers Union Annual Activist Summit Conference at a reduced to rate of only $25.

The Summit will be held downtown Washington DC (9th and E Street NW) February 9th-11th.

Students will have an excellent experience to pad their resume, see legislative action on state and federal levels, and receive free food!

Students will witness experts speak about current consumer issues in our country, and have more than 25 different workshops to choose from. Lunch will be provided all three days, and they will be able to attend a networking reception each evening with hot hors d’oeuvres.

Some key speakers include:
Austin Goolsbee: Economist serving under Barack Obama as a member of the Council of Economics Advisers; Chief Economist of the “President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board”.
Eric Schlosser: American journalist and author known for publications such as Fast Food Nation, Reefer Madness, and Chew on this.
Elizabeth Warren: Chair of Congressional Oversight Panel; developed the idea to create the Consumer Financial Protection Agency
John McDonough: Former Massachusetts legislator, Director of Health Care for All-MA, and senior adviser to the Senate HELP Committee

With more workshops and an AMAZING line-up of speakers, this may be our best Summit ever.

Students will be able to bring back new connections with activists around the country; skills, tips, and resources to use back home; and hands-on advocacy training they won’t get anywhere else.

The cost to normally attend our summit conference is $100. However, with this opportunity, students are able to attend for only $25.

To register for a scholarship award, students must be enrolled for the 2010 Spring Semester of a DC, Maryland or Virginia college or university.
