Mind Those Milk Expiration Dates

Matt spotted a disturbing milk stocking method at his unnamed New York grocery store, and is convinced the setup was designed to trick folks into buying milk that is set to soon expire.

He writes:

I just got back from a major supermarket chain in Upstate New York where all paper milk cartons were stocked so the sell by date is facing the back of the refrigerator. Normally I scan through the dates on the visible cartons to find the freshest one, but with how they were arranged that was not feasible.

I don’t think it is likely that some stockboy put 60 cartons in that way on accident. Has anyone else noticed this?

The practice is nothing new, but a reminder to be cautious when you’re buying food with short shelf life.
