ShopRite Refuses to make a Cake…for Adolf Hitler

ShopRite is really making me question my ethics this morning: They denied making a cake for a 3-year old’s birthday, but only because that child’s name happens to be Adolf Hitler.

Heath and Deborah Campbel’s oldest child, Adolf Hitler Campbell, got turned down when his parents attempted to request a cake for their little bundle of joy. ShopRite’s response:

“We believe the request … to inscribe a birthday wish to Adolf Hitler is inappropriate,” said Karen Meleta, a ShopRite spokeswoman.

Seems… Reasonable? The Campbell’s don’t seem to think so…

“ShopRite can’t even make a cake for a 3-year-old,” said Deborah Campbell, 25, who is Heath’s wife of three years and the mother of the children. “That’s sad.”

I suppose I see their stance… I mean, sure, they also named another one of their children “Aryan Nation”, but do they have a point? Feel free to discuss either sides ethical questions, but rest assured: one local retailer knows their scruples.

Young Adolf Hitler Campbell will be getting a cake from Wal-Mart this year.
