it says the TV is currently unavailable when you follow the links through.

    • karmaghost says:

@raleel: The description says “HDTV-ready.” That was the term they used back in the early days of plasmas and LCDs and projection screens when the unit didn’t have a built in tuner. Shouldn’t be a problem if you have a cable box, TiVo, etc., but something to think about.

I thought there was proof evidence that airborne was about effective at it’s intended goal as enzyte was. Even if it’s free, doesn’t seem worth it.

    • TVarmy says:

@nataku83: It’s expensive, but it’s not useless. The ginger and light carbonation helps settle your stomach, and the consistency is easy to swallow with a bad throat. It’s probably not worth the usual cost, though.

  3. Chris H says:

Ditto on Nataku83–Airborne is a scam. The company is paying out a $23M settlement for falsely claiming that Airborne prevents colds.

In fact, the product is no more effective than a placebo.

Consumerist should not be promoting it, even if free.

Link for National City is broken. Here it is:

  5. Beerad says:

In a moment of weakness, I almost broke down once and ordered a lot of meat from Omaha Steaks from some crazy special offer. But it occurred to me that 1) I don’t eat a ton of meat, so it would probably take six months to get through, and 2) do I really want to buy a lot of meat sight unseen?

I’ve read mixed things about them online. Anyone got an opinion?

    • blainer says:

@Beerad: They’re mostly ok, good not great. If you stick to the “special deals,” which are always available, you’re not getting ripped off, but you’re not getting a good deal, either. Consider, however, that these are “just” good, not great, steaks and that they will arrive frozen. You’d be better off hitting a local butcher shop or Whole Foods and getting something you can see and know hasn’t been frozen, IMHO.

The previous paragraph does not apply to their hamburgers, however. I would rather eat cardboard than eat one of those pieces of round crap again.

    • TVarmy says:

@Beerad: From what I’ve heard, frozen gourmet meat tends to come out with a mushy texture but with a better flavor than low-price cuts from the grocery store. However, the flavor isn’t really enough to justify the extra cost in most people’s opinions. The best option is to find a high-quality butcher nearby. Look online for a good butcher in the nearest big city, or just settle for Prime cuts from the grocery store.

I’ve got to take a break from politics. Did anybody else say, “OBAMA STEAKS ONLY $50!?”

  7. psikic says:

The omaha steaks deal isn’t correct. You either get the 6 free burgers and cutlery, or you use the coupon and get $10 off. Not both. I had to cancel my order.

  8. Sian says:

Omaha steaks still uses shady email practices. Unless you like spammers, do not buy anything from Omaha steaks.

  9. Chris H says:

Omaha sells lists of people who purchase it’s products. See []

  10. factotum says:

I’m confused. “why-you-should-never-order-anything-from-searscom” on one Consumerist page, yet “Sears: Skyway Polaris 5 Luggage Piece Set (Green or Black) for $99.99 + Shipping” on another.

  11. scogle says:

I think you can do better than that, Ben, with the link.

  12. rlee says:

What the heck, I’m a masochist. The online description on the Sears luggage set is pathetic, so I’m going to hit the local store, where it is supposedly in stock. Wish me luck…

  13. rlee says:

The local Sears had virtually every piece of luggage on sale, but that particular set was offered at full price! Just in case anyone cares, the set consists of:
    29″ vertical
    21″ vertical
    21″ duffle *
    tote bag
    toiletry organizer

    * That’s pushing it; it fit comfortably inside the 21″ suitcase. Pretty light-weight, too.
