  3. My first apartment in NYC was on the upper east side in a six story walk-up, and there were unused, non-working “extra” bathrooms in the hallways from before the renovation. The doors were always locked and they were used as storage closets or left empty—except for the one near my apartment, which was somehow transformed into a supremely creepy “porn closet” by a downstairs neighbor. (I know because I caught him one night.)

    It looked exactly like the photo above, only even dirtier and creepier. Ah, New York City!
