What’s up with Western Digital? Fry’s has stopped carrying them completely, and now OfficeMax is blowing out inventory?

I’m worried. Consolidation in the hard disk business is inevitable, I guess, given the razor-thin margins and commodity-style pricing, but WD felt like the last brand I could trust with my bits. Personal experience is suspect I guess, but I see a lot of dead hard drives, and too many say Maxtor on the top for me to ever buy another one.

And, geez, those Mac prices are still pretty damn high for refurbished units. I’ll stick to my pc-based notebook, thanks.
