WaMu Adds Chinese and Russian to ATMs

We have yet to independently verify this, i.e., we’ve been putting off going to the bank for a few days, but it seems that WaMu added Russian and Chinese to its ATM languages.

Which is great news for the perpetrators of The Russian Connection ATM hacks. Now they can use operatives who don’t know English, expanding their reach to say, perhaps, seven-year-old street children.

Tipster James wonders further, why do we even have to select a language each and every time we use an ATM? Can’t our cards just remember which tongue we mother?

  1. The WaMu ATM I hit up here in Portland has English, Spanish and Russian on it. Oddly enough, it doesn’t have Chinese, even though there’s a massive influx of Chinese in the greater Portland area…

Bank of America ATM cards remember your language preferences whenever you use a native ATM.
