Million Dollar Homepage Building

Inspired by a certain webpage, the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam is extending the million-dollar adspace premise to a new level of ridiculousness, its very walls. They’re selling space on 12

exterior tiles for $25 a pop

The project, “Artvertising!” aims to be “a new work that sets itself on the borders between commercial art and critical art, commerce and information, private business and public space.”

What’s so special about it being on a building facade? No one ever accused Alex Tew of being a conceptual artist.

Wow. It’s amazing how much that building looks like the Million Dollar Homepage. Before seeing this, I would have assumed that the brightness and gaudiness of the MDH (and internet ads in general) was largely due to the glowing nature of pixels and the internet color palette. I now realize that a bigger factor is the need for bright, high contrast graphics to get attention in a small space.

Hey!?! Right below the Playboy bunny head, it says “GET LAID TODAY.” I know this is Amsterdam, but…

On second thought, I checked their terms and conditions and they clearly state “As for the visual; we accept everything.”

Notice the cars there…no giant SUVs.
