Ah, the joys of LNP... <i>[not!]</i></p>
<p>
I work at a small telecomunications company that offers voice, video, and data. We have to port phone numbers every day (though, nowhere near the 13,000 that Charter deals with). Charter is right on the money when they say that porting problems cause mass chaos in regards to scheduling/installation. We are booked out at least a month for installations, so if the phone doesn't port correctly and on time it can be quite a problem for the customers.</p>
<p>
Th funny thing is the part (according to your recap above, anyway) about small telecos "slowing down" the porting system. At least for us, it takes significantly longer to port a number from one of area's largest telecos, Comcast. Porting a number from Comcast takes us at least 12 business days. 12! What do they need to do for 12 whole days? And then sometimes they are late and it ends up taking longer. That's more than half of a month (and another bill for the customer from Comcast).
