Before Blogspot and Wordpress, and even before Google, there was Geocities. But no more. If you have files or content stored on Yahoo’s GeoCities service, be sure to back up or move or it by Monday. That’s when the service, an early free web host and nerd training ground, closes down forever. It’s like part of my lonely, geeky adolescence is about to die.

Gidget, the tiny Chihuahua star of Taco Bell‘s “Yo Quiero Taco Bell” ad series in the ’90s, in addition to other ad and film work, died yesterday of an apparent stroke. She (yes, she) was fifteen years old.

Last year, I visited my parents to help clear out the house we had lived in since 1984. One of my more cuddly tasks was to sort the three garbage bags full of Beanie Babies hanging out in the closet of my childhood bedroom. Most of them found new homes in the garage sale, or were donated to charity.
