By Chris Morran on May 11, 2012 1:45 PM
Yesterday, Dish Network unveiled a new feature on its Hopper DVRs called Auto Hop, which allows customers to completely skip over ad breaks on certain prime-time network programs. The company's CEO has already touted this as "the Holy Grail of television viewers," but we're wondering if that might be overstating the case a little bit. More »

Dish Keeps Making Up New Reasons Why They Want My Boyfriend's Money
By Laura Northrup on May 10, 2012 9:03 AM
Why does Dish Network keep charging Amy's boyfriend for his old account? It could be because he made a few payments on a deadbeat roommate's account, and then that roommate never turned the equipment back in. But he did. It could be because the account was canceled before the contract was up, and it was his name on the contract. But it wasn't. Dish just keeps making up reasons, and are determined to get his money one way or another. More »

Last fall, the Philadelphia City Council passed a bill that would remove unused satellite dishes and pretty up any new ones that were bolted to the sides and roofs of city buildings. But that law is having some trouble becoming a reality after a group representing satellite TV providers filed a petition with the FCC. More »

You Can Buy Blockbuster Gift Cards Again, But Your Old One's Still Worthless
By Laura Northrup on December 16, 2011 8:00 AM
We're going to go out on a limb here and guess that there is absolutely no one out there who can't wait to buy a Blockbuster gift card. It's not exciting consumer news. The curious thing is that while you can buy a Blockbuster gift card today at any of their retail stores, a card for the same brand that you might still have in your desk drawer from only nine months ago is just a worthless piece of plastic. Blame the bankruptcy and sale of Blockbuster. More »

I Sued Dish Network And Won (Because Dish Never Showed Up At Court)
By Chris Morran on June 27, 2011 3:15 PM
One of the more common complaints we get about cable and satellite providers is that, while customers are held to ironclad contracts that lock them into strict terms lest they pay a penalty, providers too often change their end of the agreement with impunity. Luckily, there are people out there like Consumerist reader Alex, who took Dish Network to court and walked out victorious... when the satellite company was a no-show. More »

Someone Is Actually Suing To Keep Using The "Blockbuster" Brand
By Chris Morran on June 1, 2011 12:30 PM
Last September, when Blockbuster Video filed for bankruptcy protection, NCR, which licenses the video store's name for its Blockbuster Express DVD kiosks did their best to let customers know that the two businesses are related in name only. But now that the chain has been bought by Dish Network, the Blockbuster name is apparently no longer the scarlet "B" it was just a few months ago. More »
