Burger King says they're going cage-free and proud to be, promising to stop using cramped chicken and pig cages. It says it'll use 100% cage-free eggs in all U.S. restaurants by 2017 and buy pork from suppliers who show proof that they're ending the use of gestation crates for breeding sows. More »

Today, San Francisco's dreaded ban on including free toys in fast food kids' meals kicks in. McDonald's has already announced that it will get around the regulation by charging an additional $.10 for the definitely-not-covered-in-lead-paint-and-cadmium toys. Swinging the pendulum away from their "Meat Monsters" offering, Burger King is dropping slider-style BK Bites on Japan in a variety of meat patties. Besides the usual beef, you can get a chicken patty or a Spam patty. That's right, delicious Spam. And it's for the ladies. "What Women Want, Women Get," is the tagline for the Spam and BLT mini combo, which the chain describes as "lighter" and "suitable for women."
