      • tcp100 commented on Getting Married, What Do I Do With My Money For Now?

"@hmk: Exactly. I'm always so amazingly astounded by young people who say things like "The market's down so much!"

"Ben, I take it you mean't coordinated interest rate cut, not hike. It'll take a while for this to flow through to consumers - if at all."

      • tcp100 commented on How Much Would You Spend to Save Your Pet?

"@RedwoodFlyer: I'm mixed here on the pet insurance. I had it for several years for my cat; when I finally had to take him to the emergency vet, the bill was $460, they paid $80, and it took 6 months to get that. This was VPI, the "leading" pet insurance provider. The problem, I think, with pet insurance is that people think it'll pay out anywhere near the whole amount."

      • tcp100 commented on The $55 Mac And Cheese

"@augieland: Whereas I and most of us here probably appreciate your knowledge, 99% of the population probably thinks the idea of "being seriously in the know about truffles" is a ridiculous proposition. Personally, I do not like "fancy" restaurants, because all you pay for is the privilege to be seen at one."

      • tcp100 commented on TSA Martinet Claims Her Unpublished Rules Trump Real Ones

"Here's a tip. Don't ever ask for a "supervisor"!! The correct phrase is "Please let me speak to your superior." Everybody may be a "supervisor" these days, but everybody also has a boss. Well, not everybody, but if you find yourself talking to someone that doesn't, they're either A) lying or B) they've got no excuse to pass the buck."

      • tcp100 commented on Fisher-Price Walkie-Talkie Picks Up Trucker Talk; Now Tot Wants Pot And Strippers

"Umm, welcome to the wonderful world of radio. Radio waves kinda do what they want to do, or what mother nature feels they should do at a given moment, and there's not a whole lot Fisher Price can do about it. Believe it or not, a stern letter to a toy company cannot bend the laws of physics, even if you are an angry soccer mom and it's "for the children". As for what happened, most of these things operate at either the 27mhz or 49mhz unlicensed bands. 49mhz is right near the 6m HAM spectrum, and 27mhz is right near 10m/CB."
