Meg, you recently posted about a family being kicked off a plane. Unfortunately, the comments section is unreadable, since it's become a discussion about parenting instead of about airline policy. I would appreciate if consumerist disemvoweled all these "control your demon spawn" or "parenting is tough" garbage posts so we can keep the discussion about consumers.
hey meg, just had a thought when you posted about the CC shut downs.
every time i see a store get closed around here, (compUSA, circuit city, linens and things) there are ALWAYS people holding signs out on the street advertising the closings. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? do the liquidators hire homeless people? are they store employees forced out into the world?
Hey. Thanks for running my Best Buy story. I just wish that you would have told me you were running it. Or maybe you did and my spam filter picked it up or something, in which case I apologize.
Hi Meg, you made a post about Christmas Creep this week. Well we were in Hallmark today and ALL their ornaments are out now. What the heck - it is the start of AUGUST.
Hey, regarding Mikes hard drive backup issue with Geek Squad: I have a little experience with that, but the comments appear to be locked out for that article already :(
If his PC was running windows Vista this is actually an easy mistake to make, and when I chose to perform my own backup (as tech savvy as I am) I too managed to just grab the shortcut.
The reason for this being that if you go YourUsername and you see My Music; My Documents etc. These folders now all have their own special Green icons; and actually are only shortcuts to somewhere else on your drive. So you see: copying the my Music folder from under YourUsername turns up Squat.
I made that mistake with a backup in February (thankfully I didnt lose much) but its easy to miss: you just drag and drop the folders, the progress bars pop up and then you walk away for a coffee so you never notice :/
Geek Squad probably just failed to double-check the backup just like I did.
It doesn't excuse Geek Squad, but it might exonerate them from charges of Gross stupidity - and now, just charges of Stupidity. That or im grossly stupid. Whatever :)
to remedy I just create a new My Music folder on my backup drive; open up myMusic on the desktop and Copy and paste all of the contents from inside the folder/shortcut.
I was finally able to be a follower after not being able to get to this page for awhile. Among all of the great Consumerist writers, you're my favorite.

Meg, love the site! I too feel that multi-tasking is bull-shit.

"NY Governor and Former AG Apparently Quite Fond Of Whores"
That is the funniest headline I have read in ages!!!
It's the perfect storm of understated Consumerist snark and crusading Spitzer self-righteousness.
You are my hero(ine).
