Hi Hortense. Firstly, massive kudos for your handling of the comments from hell today. You were so incredibly professional and fair. But what I wanted to ask was: please could you publish a list of banned commenters saying why they were banned. The suspicion is that some excellent commenters get banned just because they disagree with the editors, and I feel like we've lost a bunch of intellectual warriors today without any inkling why; the loss of some of these excellent women is simply not good for the site. Also, even if the bannings are justified, it's a bit like the Pinochet regime (in a virtual sense, obvs!) with all these sudden disappearances and ne'er a fair thee well. Some explanation would be much appreciated as well as a tally of the fallen.

Way to handle the scary thread from hell today! I really admire your patience and occasional smack-down (although you did ban a couple friends of mine and I'm sad it came to that). I hope Jez is paying you well, because it cannot be an easy job.

Can I just say that sometimes, the best threads are ones that go slightly off topic? When someone posts a video of another Gawker writer having a bad media appearance, that's relevant. It's just a little overboard, I think, to not allow ANYTHING but the discussion at hand. It feels less like a caring moderator and more like a drill sergeant abusing their power.

I'm sure you've gotten plenty of props today but I wanted to extend a thanks as well - it seems your mere presence kept the animals at bay today. Thanks for keeping the fight clean, nice work!

I hope this is the right place to say it, but I don't think SinRoo should have been banned. If someone has a long history of insightful, funny comments, that should go a long way to make up for going overboard from time to time. Don't know who else got banned, but I think it's important to take peoples' past contributions into account. Obviously it's not up to me, but that's my opinion.
