"@wendyr: I work in health policy, and while healthcare professionals definitely have a lot of good things to contribute to policy discussions, they should just be one of a number of stakeholders whose opinions are considered. Providers have had to endure a lot of crap through no fault of their own whatsoever, but as a result can often have a narrow view on things, to the point that it can be against their own self-interests even. So I think someone who has had experience at more of the 20,000 foot level than down in the trenches would be better, as they would bring a broader view."
