<![CDATA[WraithSama commented on If you're wondering which]]> I always laughed when I heard that Starbucks stores would open across the street from one another because studies showed that a whole segment of people wouldn't cross the street to go to one, but would go into one already on their side of the road. True or not, I never believed it a sound business decision.

Therefore, it is entirely possible that someone did drink from this container.

<![CDATA[WraithSama commented on Judge Orders Wal-Mart To Pay $6.5 Million For Violating Labor Laws]]> @sisedi: Not all unions are corrupt and you're making a very broad conjecture. My job is unionized and the union and company have struck a very fair balance. The union ensures we have good pay, great benefits, and are treated fairly and equally by the employer, but the union will NOT protect you from disciplinary action if you are a terrible worker, have a bad attitude and are generally disrespectful to co-workers and supervisors, or have poor attendance.

@darksunfox: At my unionized job, our union mandates that all employees MUST take their scheduled breaks and lunches. You can actually get in trouble and even receive disciplinary action if you're caught intentionally working off the clock. I think Wal-Mart employees would benefit from this kind of policy.

@Myrddraal: Note how the article points out, in the very first sentence, that it IS a class-action lawsuit.

<![CDATA[WraithSama commented on Age Of Conan - A Million Shipped, 700K Registered]]> I think probably the best way to describe AoC is "it has potential". It sucks that it isn't there yet, laden with bugs, balance issues, and other problems, but it *could* shine, with some more polish.

That being said, I am enjoying the game so far, but might consider picking another game back up until they get AoC ironed out a bit more.

Frankly, I miss the old glory days of the original Everquest before the Planes of Power expansion. That was probably the most fun I ever had playing an MMO.

<![CDATA[WraithSama commented on The First Batch Of One-Year iPhone Warranties Are About To Expire, Or Why You Shouldn't Be An Early Adopter]]>

Not only did they needlessly wait in line, but they had to compete with the mayors of Washington and Philadelphia.

That had nothing to do with Apple or making the iPhone a "rotten deal".
Early adopters were Apple's guinea pigs, discovering all sorts of annoying bugs, like hundred-page bills that chronicled every single photo viewed. Those who went abroad learned that international data roaming charges are really expensive.

Only, replace "Apple" with "AT&T". You're attributing crap to Apple here that has nothing to do with Apple. I'm not an Apple fanboy, I stopped buying Apple products years ago, but it seems to me that most of the woes that came along with the iPhone (and still do) are because of AT&T.]]>

<![CDATA[WraithSama commented on The New $199 iPhone Is $160 More Expensive Than The $399 iPhone It Replaced. What?]]> I have a Blackberry Pearl using T-Mobile. That having been said, there's nothing deceptive about Job's speech or the iPhone price point. If I'm not mistaken, the high service prices that are causing "the phone" to be more expensive is actually fees and charges levied by AT&T, not Apple.

It looks to me like Apple did make a better phone and provide it at a lower price. AT&T just decided to jack their rates and make their service more expensive over the long run.

<![CDATA[WraithSama commented on Wal-Mart & Local Police Detain Man, Threaten Arrest Over 4 Bags Of Sugar]]> @dabrown:
It's evident that the only thing that attracted the guard's attention was the OP not showing his receipt for the sugar. At the Wal-Mart in my old hometown, the rent-a-cop stationed at the door would regularly check people's receipts at random.

As to your second quandary, the sale is complete once you hand over your money for the purchase. Showing your receipt cannot be considered part of the sales process as it becomes your property the moment you pay for it.

<![CDATA[WraithSama commented on Help! The Gas Station Froze $100 For $12 Of Gas And My Rent Check Bounced!]]> The OP can sue in small claims court under the tort of conversion. The gas station willfully, and without permission, blocked access to his property (ie. money) and therefore denied him his right to enjoy the use of said property. This falls under the tort of conversion almost to the ltter. I think this should be a slam dunk in small claims, and he can easily recover any damages (bounced check fees, etc.).

<![CDATA[WraithSama commented on Honda Civic Now Best Selling Vehicle In The Country]]> @P_Smith:
Right, and the Impreza is a nice car. And yes, this is a sweeping generalization, but most of these kids don't really seem to care about power or performance, they seem to be trying to buy 'street cred' and associate themselves with the tuner scene when all they've done is slapped on a fancy rim, a fart can, and a wing, none of which really affect the performance of the vehicle.

@howie_in_az:
You are only partly correct. It does provide downfoce which increases the car's ability to adhere to the track while cornering. However, you're dead-wrong about enhancing the car's acceleration. The corollary to downforce is that it increases drag on the car, actually *slowing* acceleration. That's why it's absolutely hilarious to see these gargantuan wings on these little economy cars. Even in a race, I seriously doubt these cars will see the kind of speeds that necessitate a wing, and with that tiny little 4-banger straining to accelerate the car quickly, you're actually harming your engine's performance with the unnecessary drag.

Har. Don't get me wrong, I'm only 25 myself, but I can't help but chuckle and shake my head every time I see some kid with a done-up Honda Civic and acting like it's the coolest thing around. I mean, seriously, is there actually some kind of inside competition about who can bolt on the most ridiculously huge wing? I'm gonna' be laughing my ass off one day when one of these stooges clip that St. Louis Arch on their trunk they call a wing on some fast food drive-thru awning, or maybe a low bridge.

]]>
<![CDATA[WraithSama commented on Honda Civic Now Best Selling Vehicle In The Country]]> Most of the Honda Civics I see driving around are retarded teenagers and early-twenties with aftermarket rims, a fart can muffler so big it looks like it used to be a Foldgers can, and a bolt-on wing on the trunk so big it's actually taller than the roof of the car. Euro-style taillights are also popular. Of course, most of them have been debadged, too, but they're still obviously Civics. I think most of these people never quite got the fact that their car is a 4-cylinder econobox.

The Fast and the Furious was apparently a very successful 2-hour long Honda Civic commercial. Impressionable kids who know nothing about real cars bought into the hype, and now every punk with a jersy, sideways hat and an attitude thinks their "pimped out" Civic is the baddest thing on the road.

Can you believe I actually saw one of these Civics with a Fast and the Furious decal on the quarterpanels? *rolls eyes*

<![CDATA[WraithSama commented on Are You A Sucker For Using Your Credit Card?]]> @WraithSama:
I'll add to my own post that, even though my wife and I make decent money, when we paid for everything with cash or debit, we lived almost paycheck-to-paycheck because it was easy to ignore how much we were spending.

Once credit card bills started forcing us to face how much we were spending, I was AMAZED at how fast our checking account balance grew as our spending dropped off sharply. The ONLY reason this happened was because we switched to using credit cards for purchases. That monthly bill is an eye-opener.

]]>
<![CDATA[WraithSama commented on Are You A Sucker For Using Your Credit Card?]]> @TheKingBoar:
I use credit for most purchases and I disagree with the OP for one reason: if you think it hurts seeing your cash disappear gradually each time you make a transaction, it'll hurt much more when you pay that credit card bill at the end of the month and pay a large lump sum. That's my Anti-Charge (tm).

I used to be pretty loose and easy with cash, but since I started using credit to pay for things, it almost physically hurts me to pay that monthly bill. Result? Spending goes down.
