"@razremytuxbuddy: They're not paid to any government, so they're not taxes; what they are is an attempt to push portions of the regular cost of doing business to the customer without including those costs as part of any advertised price.
Slimy, sleazy, and altogether wrong."
"@katstermonster: Detecting botnets and telling users about it -- yes, that's something right.
Using a mechanism as fragile and intrusive as putting those customers behind a mutating proxy -- boo!"
"@Chumas: I'm glad that you can enjoy cooking, but it really isn't for everyone.
My wife is a brilliant cook with an intuitive feel for how ingredients will combine."
"@MinorAnnoyance: They're very common around here in Texas, and I was very annoyed to hear the McDonald's ad campaign claiming the chicken biscuit and chicken sandwich as their own inventions, where in fact they're very poor knockoffs of Chick-fil-A's signature menu items.
CfA generally has exceptional service -- I've heard people complain online that they think encouraging employees to answer "Thank you" with "my pleasure" when the customer in question is in fact being a decent human being is demeaning, but I really appreciate it -- and is owned by Christian conservatives who actually walk the walk (donate heavily to charity, close the business on Sundays, support politics I _really_ disagree with such as Prop 8..."
"@sir_pantsalot: Yes, and I'm unimpressed (though my wife, a native Southerner, loves them); I think Church's was much better than Popeye's before they started skimping on ingredients.
That said -- I eat at Chick Fil-A much more often than either Popeye's or Church's; the chicken burritos on their breakfast menu are fabulous."
"@Tankueray: HTC's newer Android-based phones are significantly unlike their older Windows Mobile ones; I've switched from an iPhone to a G1 (an Android-based phone made by HTC), and am far happier for it."
"@torgonius: The first, foremost and IMHO most important goal of "getting your data out" is to have a copy of your data you directly control -- as opposed to depriving Google of any copies which might be sitting around somewhere in their system."
"I shop at Costco and HEB -- and while at Costco coupons are from the manufacturers, targeted at the major brands, and not always competitive with house-brand items, HEB tends to use them liberally to promote their already-cheap house-brand items."
