The clip follows Jack as he learns to put aside frizzy peach delights and going to the movies all the time in order to save up for a camera.
After making a budget, he creates a graph that shows his savings progress over time as he works towards this goal.
This simple technique gives you a visual way to track your progress. You can also see how "falling off the wagon" sets your goal back by a week, or a month.

I tried to save up for a Prius, but my pen broke, and the rubber cement didn't hold out very long... had to put that Prius off another few weeks.
Man, I'm always blowing my budget on candy, ice cream, and mixers at the school gym. Gee whiz!
$18 for entire family to eat for a week!?!?!? That's ridiculous.
I can feed my family of 17 + the dog and my neighbor's family of 9 for just $2.50 a week.
yeah, budgeting is not rocket science. Its that determination part that becomes a problem.
The idea of drawing a graph as a visual indicator of progress is not a bad idea. I could see the same sort of thing working for people attempting weight loss but have trouble "visualizing" their goal.
They don't show stuff like this at my school. We live in a rich area, but there's a lot of people who find themselves in debt or sometimes even living out of their car for their frivolous spending in areas like this. It's a shame. The only financial people who do seem to reach the kids around here is the credit/debit industry.
Gee whillikers! I suppose if he wanted to be a retro version of today's teens and wanted that camera right now, he could have taken the streetcar downtown to the five-and-ten emporium and used his pop's charge-a-plate.
The kid's idle expression looks like that unflattering pic of Bush that's always floating around. Forgive me for being political, but Bush could do to watch this video.
About the pen, did the bank lobby pay off Cornet not to mention that you should steal all your pens from banks and car dealerships?

So much of a history lesson in this video. I realized the thought that pens back then were not as cheap or of the same quality as they are today.
