1948 Instructional Film On Budgeting

This amusing retro film offers budgeting lessons that are still good today.

The clip follows Jack as he learns to put aside frizzy peach delights and going to the movies all the time in order to save up for a camera.

After making a budget, he creates a graph that shows his savings progress over time as he works towards this goal.

This simple technique gives you a visual way to track your progress. You can also see how "falling off the wagon" sets your goal back by a week, or a month.

As the film notes, one of the best things is that after sticking to a budget and reaching a goal once, it makes doing the same for the next goal even easier. — BEN POPKEN
