Convenience is one thing. The important thing is whether the resultant pancakes taste like propane, the way Redi-Whip or Cheeze Whiz tends to.

Alternately, do people lazy enough to use such a thing actually care what the end product tastes like, or are they just happy to have pancakes with a minimum of work?

this has me all over it. if you look up the definition of lazy, it has my picture right next to it. and right next to that is a pic of my wife doing everything for me. lol. being lazy rules! it's sort of a rite of passage in my family. i take great pride in it.

they use n20 as a propellent in reddi-whip if i'm not mistaken. i use to love that stuff when i was in high school. (n20, not reddi-whip).

Hm, this sounds ingenious. The propellant (nitrous oxide if they copied Reddi-whip) can double as the leavening, so you don't need to worry about the batter going flat, as baking soda/powder leavened stuff will do over time.

Given how Easy Cheese (similar viscosity) isn't exactly fast, I'd still go for the restaurant batter dispenser or a ladle. Squirting batter into a waffle iron that close is asking for a nasty burn.

@onetakedizzle: Oh I agree with you whole heartedly...turn that pancake batter into cookie dough and it might be the greatest thing since sliced bread!

on a side note, i'm looking for a more convenient way to eat yogurt. Go-Gurt is just too much of a hassle.

It's organic but potentially environmentally unfriendly. Hmm. How about justgetting the mix where you just add water, mix it in a jug and then pour it into a cake decorator bag? It does the same job, but without having to throw out or recycle some propellant can.

According to the website, you get eight servings per can. Eight pancakes? Pssh, two people could go through that in one breakfast if they were hungry.

They also have recipes on the website that require you to mix the batter with other ingredients... Um, doesn't that kind of negate the whole convenience factor they're going for?

And, finally, Batter Blaster sounds like a porno about pastry chefs.

What happens when you get to the end of the batter? Does it make the Redi Whip fart? Seems to me a great way to get batter splattered all over the wall.

If I want "fast" pancakes or waffles, I'll buy them frozen. This "can-cakes" idea causes more environmental waste than a frozen package would.

I *like* to cook, and part of the fun of pancakes is a lazy Sunday morning wearing pajamas, making pancakes, cutting fruit and opening the syrup bottle.

People, its two completely different recipes! If you're making your pancakes and your waffles from the same batter (or God-forbid, the same box of pre-mixed powder crap), then you're probably doing BOTH of them wrong.

Get yourself a nice deep-fryer full of vegetable oil (or something with some good-ol' trans fats in it!) and I bet you could make some pretty tasty and quick funnel cakes with this.

@MikeHerbst: Actually the Hungry Jack mix makes some really good waffles. You need to add more of the powder than is stated to get the right consistency.

I'm actually very sad that this is not available in my area. As a single adult, it's just a pain to make pancakes as I'm waking up. Were I a mother, I probably wouldn't see the appeal of this product, as I'd be cooking for more than one person.

By the way, for those complaining about the packaging, the package is completely recyclable according to the website. Additionally, not all methods of pressurization are evil and there may actually be no propellant involved. [findarticles.com]

Heck, you can buy frozen pancakes wrapped around a sausage on a stick if you wanna.

I can make absolutely delicious pancake batter from scratch in about 5 minutes. Basically, by the time the skillet is hot, the batter is about ready. This product doesn't even tempt me.
