Doritos
"A cargo container that apparently fell from a ship washed up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina today and spilled thousands of bags of Doritos brand tortilla chips on the beach. Scavengers collected the chips, which were apparently still fresh due to their airtight packaging. It was unknown which ship had lost the cargo or to what port it was bound."

Complaints
Reader Miss_smartypants bought a new PEBL cellphone from T-mobile, free after $50 rebate. After she sent in the rebate forms, she saw a notice on T-mobile's site for the phone free, straight up, with no rebate business. She called to request a pricematch so she wouldn't have to wait for the rebate.

If Kraft could make peanut butter with no peanuts in it, you can bet they would. The LA TImes is reporting that a
California woman is suing Kraft because their "Guacamole" doesn't have enough avocado.

ask the consumerist
We were reading a NYT article, "
800 Very Unsquare Feet" about this "Free City" store in a Malibu strip mall. It sounds neat, selling custom tepees, bikes, and original tshirts. The store also gives away free orange juice and oranges.

Wii
Carbon nanotubes have one of the highest tensile strengths of any material known to man, which is how we know that the Wii wrist strap is not made of them. The Wii strap has been breaking at inopportune times all over the country since the Wii's release in mid-November—and the results have been disastrous enough to warrant a few news stories and at least one blog dedicated to documenting the destruction. Because after you've bounced a video game controller off your laptop and into your brand new plasma tv—you're going to take a picture. And we're going to laugh. In all seriousness,
Nintendo might have a little problem on its hands if these "accidents" are caused by a faulty wrist strap. May we suggest Kevlar next time?

Tshirts
We had a problem with the tshirt printer meaning no one would get their shirts on time, so we canceled the
Consumerist tshirt order. This worked out well because only 5 shirts were sold, and we bought two of them. We refunded everyone's money and issued them a coupon for a free Gawker Shop tshirt.

Trackers
Reader Ben liked the Wii inventory tracker, so he sends us this "deal of the day" tracker site. it lists both Tanga, Woot, Overstock, Amazon... as well as many other sites that we can not speak to the awesomeness of, having never tried them. The site lists activity, product, site, the age of the deal, the amount available and the estimated time remaining. Pretty cool.

Walmart
A little bird told us that Walmart's products don't ring up for the same price they are listed as on the shelves, so we went and tested one of their stores.
