n/a commented on VW May Pass GM As World's Second Largest Automaker This Year

I've had four Volkswagens. The water pump in my '01 Jetta 1.8T went at 50K miles. Aside from that, they've been great. I currently drive a Mk5 GTI, and I love it. No build problems (so far), no mechanical problems (so far), no problems at all. It is a beautifully-built, fun, and relatively practical automobile.

It's no surprise to me that VW's stock is climbing the charts.

n/a commented on 1984 Mercedes Benz 500SL for $85,000!

I went to have my GTI serviced at the local VW place here in southern Connecticut last week, and I got to talking with one of the salesmen. His father is a car buff and owns 20 or so classic Chevys and Fords (the 1964-1974 period, mostly). However, he also owns a 1984 Mercedes 300SD (dark blue with tan leather interior) that he bought in 1984 and immediately garaged. It has, according to Chris, 604 miles on it AND the original window sticker.

n/a commented on AIG Turns Over The Names Of Bonus Recipients

The AIG FP office is in Wilton, Connecticut, two towns over from where I live. The guy who got the biggest bonus owns a house that I see every day on my drive to work. Many of these names are already out.

That being said, most of the folks who have already been fingered have agreed to give the money back. (See this article from today's Times.) They are being threatened. Their kids are being threatened.
