—>We at Consumerist really hate mandatory binding arbitration, the faux-legal sucker punch that companies deliver when they screw up and you try to sue, and so should you. We've talked about its evils a lot, but no one can describe this legal abomination as well as the victims themselves, so this week we'll let them speak. More »
—>Our beloved fatherteacher Ben Popken seems just fine with his newly lasered eyes, but not everyone sees such great results, says Reuters: "Blurred vision, dry eyes, glare and double-vision have led to depression and in some cases suicide, several patients told a U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel." These patients want the FDA to take a more active role in regulating the LASIK industry (currently the FDA regulates the equipment but not the people who use it). More »
Five days later, I have fully recovered from laser eye surgery and can see everything perfectly and without blurriness. There is still some mild dryness but that's all. I rate this procedure a STRONG BUY. More details to come. More »
—>Last month I asked the readers for help finding a laser eye surgeon, and to make up for the slight abuse of editorial privilege by letting you know how I picked him. I believe I have settled on one that was suggested by several of the readers, Dr. Koplin with Laserone. His name was mentioned by several of the readers. I wanted someone close by because of the followup visits. I felt comfortable with the staff when I went in for an evaluation. He's with the esteemed New York Eye and Ear hospital. When I called a bunch of the doctors' offices, the price ranged from $4,000 to $6,000, which includes zapping both eyes, all drops, medication and followup visits. I can afford that but it seems a smidge high. More »

If you're in the market for a chin tuck, an eyebrow scoot, or a face-pulling-back thing—hey, we're not the experts here—but you don't have a lot of disposable vanity cash, then head down to Argentina, which is filled with "reputable doctors who are highly skilled due to a local rage for cosmetic surgery" and where common procedures can cost a third of what they cost in the U.S. Plus, you get airlines miles.
