Woman Mistakes Superglue For Eyedrops; Not As Funny As It Sounds
By Chris Morran on October 6, 2010 12:47 PM
It sounds like the sort of prank a bratty little brother would pull in a wacky Hollywood comedy from the '80s, but it's not. A woman in Arizona recently reached for what she thought was eyedrops, only to end up squirting superglue into her eye. More »

6 Reasons Why Designer Sunglasses Are A Rip-Off
By Chris Morran on July 15, 2010 2:30 PM
I don't know about you, but when I go out in the sun, I'll only wear a pair of hugely oversized $500 Dolce & Gabbana shades so that I'm easily recognized by the paparazzi. But apparently, says the Wall Street Journal, I need not have spent my entire month's paycheck on my designer specs. More »

Experian Fixes Messed Up Credit Report By Deleting Everything
By Chris Walters on December 1, 2009 8:04 PM
Monique X. is trying to get a loan to consolidate her debts into a more affordable payment. She writes that she's been careful with her credit history and knew that her credit score was adequate to get approved at her bank, "even with the economy the way it is." That's when she discovered that someone else's accounts had been folded into hers, and that Experian's solution to their error was as bad as the problem. More »

Forced Arbitration: As Fair As A Sucker Punch
By Alex Chasick on April 27, 2009 7:58 PM

—>We at Consumerist really hate mandatory binding arbitration, the faux-legal sucker punch that companies deliver when they screw up and you try to sue, and so should you. We've talked about its evils a lot, but no one can describe this legal abomination as well as the victims themselves, so this week we'll let them speak.  More »

Patients Of Botched LASIK Surgery Urge FDA To Step In
By Chris Walters on April 25, 2008 11:11 PM

—>Our beloved fatherteacher Ben Popken seems just fine with his newly lasered eyes, but not everyone sees such great results, says Reuters: "Blurred vision, dry eyes, glare and double-vision have led to depression and in some cases suicide, several patients told a U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel." These patients want the FDA to take a more active role in regulating the LASIK industry (currently the FDA regulates the equipment but not the people who use it).  More »

Five days later, I have fully recovered from laser eye surgery and can see everything perfectly and without blurriness. There is still some mild dryness but that's all. I rate this procedure a STRONG BUY. More details to come.  More »

Picked A Laser Eye Doctor
By consumerist.com on February 11, 2008 8:00 PM

—>Last month I asked the readers for help finding a laser eye surgeon, and to make up for the slight abuse of editorial privilege by letting you know how I picked him. I believe I have settled on one that was suggested by several of the readers, Dr. Koplin with Laserone. His name was mentioned by several of the readers. I wanted someone close by because of the followup visits. I felt comfortable with the staff when I went in for an evaluation. He's with the esteemed New York Eye and Ear hospital. The job will only cost around $3,000. Sweet. I just gotta schedule the surgery and then I'm going under the laser. Pew pew!  More »

Need Help Finding A Laser Eye Surgeon In New York City
By consumerist.com on January 11, 2008 3:11 PM

—>I'm thinking about shooting lasers into my eyes. I know, I know, usually people want to shoot lasers out of one's eyes, but I've always been a contrarian. No really, I want to get laser eye surgery, any suggestions for doctors in New York City? So far the only lead I have to go on are the fine doctors associated with the New York Eye and Ear Hospital, reputed to be a great place with great doctors. When I called a bunch of the doctors' offices, the price ranged from $4,000 to $6,000, which includes zapping both eyes, all drops, medication and followup visits. I can afford that but it seems a smidge high.  More »
