The Most Alarmingly Typical Best Buy TV Buying Experience Ever

5:31 PM on November 23, 2009

@self-check: There is NO difference between a functioning $100 HDMI cable and a functioning $6 cable bought off the back of an eBay truck. You don't get higher quality ones and zeroes over a more expensive cable. It's either on or off.

This, among many other reasons, is why I won't set foot in a Best Buy if I'm spending my own money. (I had to go in recently for a MacBook power supply on short notice, and that was only after I found that the local Apple store was closed for renovations.) Oddly enough, I didn't get browbeaten about an extended warranty on it (not even Applecare.)

Everything a blue shirt says is either wrong or a lie. If you have to go there, the only things you should say to them are "That one, please" and "No" enough times to allow you to give them your money.

Live In The Mobile Home Of The Future

4:35 PM on November 13, 2009

@DH405: That's because nobody wants to live where you do. Up here you can't touch anything for less than $250k, and that's a tear-down, usually. Average home price is more than $400k. $100k, building equity, and pride of ownership sounds pretty good. You can live there while you're saving up to buy a 'real' house instead of building someone else's equity renting.

Dell Gets Nosey When Attempting To Verify Order

"May I have your phone number?" "Sorry, it's not listed." "We have to put something in" "Fine. 555-1212." "I need your real number" "No you don't, and you're not getting it, ask me again and you can put $item back on the shelf and watch me walk out."

I've never given out my home phone number to someone who had no legitimate need for it. Buying $5 worth of RJ-45 terminators does not create this need (I'm looking at you, Radio Shack. DIAF.)

The Best States For Health Care

@Yurei: I'd spend the money to get the HPV vaccine if you haven't already. If you can't go to the OBGYN every year for a pap smear, you might be dead of cancer before you know it.

Just sayin'. I don't own the equipment in question, but I know several people who do.
