Child Labor? In MY Local Store? It's More Likely Than You Think
@acvicari: Yes, we end it immediately. A lot of research has found that strict bans on child labor decrease the birth rate. The reason is that when children are no longer valuable for their parents, parents don't want as many. If poor countries decrease their birth rate, more wealth will be available per capita. You'll have a higher standard of living for children and all the people of these countries.
If The Coupon Doesn't Apply, You Must Not Buy
Slightly off topic but I'm tired of stores saying "everything" is on sale and then having fine print excluding some things. Everything means everything. You can say "almost everything" is on sale and that's fine but not "everything."
Welcome To The New Gilded Age, Fueled By Your Money
@ARP: In regards to 3, isn't the problem that we had enough reserves to cover anticipated losses but that no one actually anticipated how large the losses would be?
Don't Have $5,300 For Season Tickets? The Washington Redskins Will Sue You Into Bankruptcy
@varro: I think that's the way the Green Bay Packers do it. There's a huge waiting list of course and only a few people drop off every year.
Why Are Placebos Getting More Effective?
@zentex: You maybe have been sarcastic but I think you're illustrating a common misconception about the mind: there are physical problems and there are things there are "all in your head." People often say that like they're somehow two different things but of course all medical issues are solely physical in nature. If someone has depression, physically something is causing that. Now that physical issue can be treated by medication or a placebo or therapy but they're all causing physical changes.
@SgtMajorFragg: Wellbutrin SR was introduced well before its patent ended. Bupropion can cause seizures in some patients and but the seizure risk decreased significantly when it was put into a sustained release formula. I don't even think you can buy Wellbutrin in the US anymore.
Wellbutrin XL was certainly introduced to get around the patent expiration though. No idea on what is different between the Zyban and Wellbutrin formulations though either.
New York Mayor Says Luxury Homeless Shelter Residents Shouldn't Get Too Cozy
@West Coast Secessionist: Did you read the quotes? It's temporary! Almost every homeless shelter is. They are a way to help people start to get their lives back together with people who can help them. You're also ignoring the fact that a majority of homeless adults have mental illness that prevents them from getting or keeping a job.
I would be astounded if they allowed residents to stay for more than 30-45 days.
Loan Officers Detail Wells Fargo's Blatantly Racist Subprime Loans
@Munchie: That would seem unlikely as two sworn affidavits detail racism at Wells Fargo. Can I take bets on whether you read the story beyond the word NAACP?
Your Member Of Congress Can Help Renegotiate Your Mortgage
@H3ion: Hmm considering we kept these companies from going out of a business, members of Congress should damn well get involved. If banks don't want Congresspeople calling them over treating customers like dirt they can do two things: stop treating customers like dirt and stop making terrible business decisions that led them to beg for our help.

Gun Owners Fired Up as Ammo Shortage Eases
@MrEvil: Of course you can shoot a Grizzly or any other animal if a reasonable person would believe their life is in danger.
