Pizza Hut Thinks We Should Eat Pasta With Our Fingers
Stupid? Absolutely. Face-palmingly so.
Major consumer issue? Hardly.
Couple Faces $700 Tab For Listing Copy Of Rosetta Stone They Didn't Know Was Pirated
How exactly are the couple liable for this amount? If the software was stolen physical property then a police report should have been filed. If the software is a digital COPY, than Rosetta Stone can take them to court to prove infringement. Given that all parties involved responded to the cease and desist letter, I would be surprised if a court would hold the couple liable.
But that's me. Unfortunately, the system supports extortion by the well-informed and well-backed party and not the common person.

Pizza Hut Thinks We Should Eat Pasta With Our Fingers
Of course it is, but on the scale of consumer problems it is pretty minor. There are two key dimensions here:
1) Consumer harm: a) death, b) major injury, c) subjected to great risk, d) major inconvenience, e) minor inconvenience.
2) Scope of impact: a) global, b) national, c) state, d) city, e) one location
We have a minor inconvenience at one location. Most of us just adapt, note the disappointment, and move on.
If we all react dramatically to everything in the d) - e) quadrant of the above, it diminishes the impact and relevance of everything else. I wish Consumerist as a whole would get that.

But... but... he was WRONGED!
I don't know what world you live in, but in this world we all sit around becoming victims. We sit around and complain about how others infringe on our lives and make things inconvenient. Did you hear that? INCONVENIENT! How dare others expect us to adapt to everyday occurrences!
