Microsoft Set To Release Windows 8 Preview Feb. 29
I know that's what the kiddies want, but these live updates from social networks and IM would be the first things I turn off. I have enough trouble with distraction management as it is (says I, as I write this on Consumerist)
Sears Might Repair Your Fridge, Isn't Really Sure
One interesting bit of information that the service rep told me - there are no such thing as "KENMORE". It's different manufacturers (maytag/GE/LG) with a name "Kenmore" slapped on it. I really have an LG frig.
Also, there's no such thing as Sears. It's really just incompetent boobery with the name "Sears" slapped on it.
Clint Eastwood Denies Political Slant In Chrysler Super Bowl Ad
All politics aside, I think these "We're back and better than ever!" ads from bailed-out automakers are annoying and lack perspective.
When you've been around for 100 years, spending 30 of those years careening toward a brick wall which you eventually hit, I think it's a little premature to melodramatically announce you've risen from the ashes after having 1 profitable quarter.
Starting A Mall-Closing Riot Won't Make Those Cool New Shoes Any Less Sold Out
But then there's no hype, which is what it's all about.
This is an excellent, obvious solution to the problem - which is why I put the blame squarely on Foot Locker and the other similar places that play this game. Regardless of what the product is or whom the clientele may be, there's no reason for this nonsense.
Starting A Mall-Closing Riot Won't Make Those Cool New Shoes Any Less Sold Out
Simple solution to the problem: Make it incumbent upon the stores to hire police security to retain order and safety.
And if the stores have a problem with this policy or the cost associated with it, they can take it up with their customers or Nike - their choice. Enough of this crap.
Would You Shop At A Brick-And-Mortar Amazon Store?
Can I be guaranteed the item I'm shopping for will be in stock?
Will I never have to deal with long lines at the cash register?
In order to shop there, would I have to extricate myself from my office, currently filled with piles of crumpled beer cans, empty fried-chicken buckets, and skin mags?
Yeah, that's what I thought. No thank you.
Banks Realize Short Sales Are Better Than Foreclosure, Pay Homeowners To Sell Now
Bloomberg has the story of one underwater homeowner who received a letter from JPMorgan Chase declaring, "You could sell your home, owe nothing more on your mortgage and get $30,000."
Pfft. If I got something like this in the mail, I'd
a) first think it was a scam, or
b) would assume the bank would screw it up, and I'd be dumped onto the street.
Almost All States Sign On To Massive Mortgage Settlement
I suspect I've lost all the original 20% equity I had in my house as well. I read elsewhere that if that fact was preventing one from refinancing, there will be some aid to help allow a refinance to happen going forward.
I haven't been that interested in refinancing, as I'd rather receive a principle reduction, although I don't see that happening. However, if I refinance and apply the difference between the old and new mortgage payments to an exit strategy of sorts, perhaps that's better than nothing.
My thing is this: If my neighbor is facing foreclosure, and I'm still making ends meet just fine, I can see the benefit to me in his getting aid from our tax dollars if it keeps him in his house. However, since we are talking about tax dollars here, at some point I'd like to be invited to the table as well, because I've lost a lot of money. I don't have to be first, but I want to get my cut at some point. But I have a feeling that will never happen.
Walmart Is Going To Tell You Straight Up Which Foods Are Healthy
Oof, that's awful of me.
