MPAA Asks FCC For Control Of Your TV's Analog Outputs

I think it would be more effective if they regionalized the movie streams.

For instance, in New York they could stream the movie with a Yankees logo in the corner. That would render any pirated copies unwatchable in most of New England...

Trying to lock down the entire distribution system seems like it would be an impossible task, since it only takes one failure to make the movie available to the entire world.

Free Money From The U.S. Mint: Scheme, Scam, Or Gamble?

Wouldn't the US Mint pay a fee to you your card issuer? I remember when the consumerist linked a site that shows what merchants pay to accept your card, and it could easily be 2 or 3%. (More than your reward.)

So I'm sure your credit card issuer will think that this plan rules. The mint pays them a fee, and you turn around and pay down your balance within a couple weeks.

This is pretty unethical; you'd definitely be abusing a public service. This is no different than repeatedly requesting records from your town hall, pulping them and selling the pulp. (Just more lucrative.)

@ARP: "-1 for fake word. I think it should both their responsibilities." If we're keeping score, that will be -2 for invisible word and visible grammer.

@Ayarkay: Well, the article says he is "6'2" 350lbs". Unless he is extremely dense, with a singularity at his core, he will not fit without putting his elbow in my neck.

But no, I did not do a computer simulation.

He's too big to fit in a seat without imposing on the person next to him. He's obviously flown before, so it should not have been a surprise to him.

I've flown next to people his size; it's an absolutely miserable experience.

Irregardless of the airlines rules, he needs to start taking responsibility for himself. His expectations are unreasonable, and his anger is childish.

"What Do I Do When My Lender Isn't Playing Fair With Loan Modification?"

To be fair to the banks, it's worth mentioning that they don't have to modify your loan even if you're "eligible" for one of the government programs.

Even though the government program softens the blow of modifying your mortgage, the bank would probably be better off if you found a great job tommorow and could catch up on your mortgage. If that looks at all likely, I'm sure they'd rather wait and see what happens.

I just read that combustion engines aren't all that efficient because of all the wasted heat they produce.

(So maybe the future is a gasoline/steam hybrid)

I did notice that they quoted the price of a kWH of electricity at five cents, which is pretty low. (Here it's around $0.10 in the summer, and $0.15 in the deepest part of the winter.)

I'm a little skeptical that an electric car would cost less to run. Around here, a BTU of electric heat costs about three times as much as a BTU of heat from #2 oil, even in an 85% efficient furnace. I don't know how efficient a combustion engine is, though.

I would gladly buy a little commuter car that I could charge in my driveway; I could always rent a car for the occasional long trip. The electric car would have to be pretty inexpensive to sway me, though.
