Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

Expert: Credit Card Data On Old Xbox Hard Drives Is Vulnerable (Updated)

Just another reason not to use your credit card to buy points and gold memberships. Buy the prepaid cards - they go on sale every so often anyway. There have been stories of auto-renewals that can't be shut off, it's too easy to make accidental purchases by repeatedly tapping "A" from the dashboard, etc. Just never even put your CC info straight into your Xbox - problems solved.

Toyota Recalls Another 681,000 Camry, Venza, Tacoma Vehicles

That statement is absurd right on its face. Consumerist is owned by Consumer Reports. In spite of everything that's happened to Toyota's reputation in the past two years, CR's latest list of best cars was still absurdly over-populated with Toyotas, and was posted right here on Consumerist a few weeks ago. They post the good and the bad.

I will have to remember this post for the next time someone asks me the difference between irony and a coincidence. The phrase "there idiots" in this context is a nice example of irony.

Have You Ever Sat Through A Timeshare Pitch For Cash?

I've done two now. One was a 60-minute presentation in exchange for a nice dinner in St. Thomas, and it went great. We said no, and the guy was very professional even though he gave us three different pitches. No complaints at all. We did another about two hours from home (in Virginia) where 90 minutes turned into 3 hours, and the gift (a "free" cruise) had 1 million strings attached and was not at all worth the hassle. Doubtful that I'd ever do another one.

Does Chuck Schumer ever miss an opportunity to grandstand about something that has nothing to do with his job as a senator?

"With the midnight opening, employees like myself will have to leave for work right in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner."

These guys may be right in general, but exactly how long does this one guy plan to be eating his Thanksgiving dinner?

It's supposed to refer to a calorie that's not accompanied by any vitamins, minerals, or other useful nutritional content. I get the term, though I too find it slightly disingenuous. Also, in context of this article, the only completely "empty" calories at McD's are really soda and maybe the desserts. Everything else might have too much fat, and the calorie-to-nutrition ratio might be terrible, but most McD's food has SOME nutritional utility.

Agh, I really do try to restrain my grammar fascism, but this lady is a blogger, and in the first paragraph she mixed up "then" and "than" AND "too" and "to"? No, can't read it.
