They probably did it to pass the financial loss onto the insurance companies. Travel Insurance usually covers for weather delays, but not mechanical ones.

Choosing The Right Type Of Travel Insurance

Depends on the plan. Some policies can cover for some time after travel, usually between 90 days and a year from the time you return home. As most of the people here have posted, you have to check your policy coverage.

And with repatriating, if they wanted to get him home it's most likely because adequate coverage for his injury wasn't available in the area that he was traveling.

The next fee that airlines will now charge: the "Potentially finding a potentially threatening note potentially delaying the flight" fee.

I did this for my fiance a few years ago (so that I could add her onto my line through a local carrier...$20 a month rather than $50!) and it's surprisingly easy. You can also do this via their online chat. I woudl recommend this since it's easier to stick to your guns. They just copy-and-paste a few canned pleas for you to stay, and all you have to do is type no thanks. Much easier than dealing with it over the phone, in my opinion. Plus then you can save your chat :)

I think that he's referring to cell phones that would have GPS on them. When you turn a smartphone "off", it's not really "off", it's just on sleep mode and the GPS part of it could still be utilized. Or, if nothing else, it would allow for triangulation using cell towers.

Taking the batter out completely stops this, and is the only way to stop it with modern smartphones.

Should Vending Machines Post Calorie Counts?

I agree. As someone who frequents the vending machine (work in an office and don't have a way to bring my own food in) I don't know the calorie count until I buy the item. I'd love to have them posted; even if it's just some brochures on the machine.

Public domain or not, I thought you had to be able to see the person's face? Being that it was taken from the back I think it'd be hard to identify too many of the people on that plane.
