FCC Promises 100,000 New Jobs... At Call Centers
I left a very stressful but decent paying job at a Bank of America fraud services call center in Delaware back in '08 when my husband took a job in Huntsville, AL. I went looking for a call center job around here and the only thing I came up with was an $8 an hour gig working rotating shifts at West, a 3rd party call center contractor. At BoA I made $18.50, worked a fixed shift (12PM to 10PM, Monday thru Friday), got very good medical coverage and 3 weeks of paid vacation plus 2 weeks of sick time and a short term disability policy fully paid by the company. If the call center jobs are like what West tried to offer me, I'm saying no thank you.
Make Sure The Nursing Home Isn't Dosing Grandma Into Submission
I'm Bipolar and am on a cocktail of meds including Zyprexa, the grand dame of powerful anti-psychotics. I would LOVE to see the reaction of nursing home staff when I get old if they tried to do that to me. Even at its highest dose, the Zyprexa would put me out for about 15 hours a day but as soon as I woke up I'd be a force to be reckoned with. Fortunately, people in my family NEVER develop dementia or Alzheimers so mentally I'd be pretty fit even at 95. My great grandmother drove until 6 months before she died of cancer at 94.
In all seriousness though, anti-psychotics can cause MAJOR weight gain. I went from 100 lbs to 145 lbs within 3 months of going on Zyprexa. I don't eat much and I still can't seem to shake the weight off. Its not unheard of for Zyprexa to make people gain 100lbs or more. If your relative is in a nursing home and they have sudden unusual weight gain that can't be chalked up to a thyroid problem or other medical issue, it might be a sign that they're on anti-psychotics.
Bank Of America Opens, Closes Credit Card Customer Never Applied For
I worked in Fraud Services for Bank of America from 11/06 to 5/08 and this was a VERY common occurrence. Tellers were going crazy for perks and opening cards for customers just to make their quota. Apparently all that was needed for a teller to open a card was a verbal authorization from the customer. I thought it was a twisted system and got out of that place as soon has my husband finished college. Fraud didn't like what they were doing but apparently higher ups at the bank glossed over it. We wanted the tellers to be fired for doing this but upper level management let it slide.
Do Not Sell A $5,000 Dump Truck For $450 In Scrap Metal
I didn't know that he left the title in the glove box. I keep my titles in an envelope hidden in my house personally.
Do Not Sell A $5,000 Dump Truck For $450 In Scrap Metal
When I called to sell my wrecked '92 Bonneville for scrap the first thing the yard asked me was if I had a title for it. This was at a small junkyard in rural Alabama. The guy who picked the car up said that they won't buy a car if they don't have a title and ID. Of course, he didn't ask me for ID because my name is on the mailbox at our house and he said that he trusted me because I could tell him exactly what happened to the car damage wise. Plus the registration in the car had my signature on it which thus matched the signature I put on the title to sign it over. I even showed him parts we had stripped off the car for ourselves because some of them were compatible with the '98 Buick Riviera we had purchased as a replacement.
I say the OP needs to sue the heck out of this scrap dealer because they obviously didn't do their due diligence in verifying that the paperwork with the truck was an actual DMV issued title. Usually those things have some form of security feature so you can verify the title is real. At least in Delaware (where I'm from originally) and Alabama when I live now, they have security features in the title.
Debt Collectors Out To Prove They Are Not All Zombie Bullies Who Want To Eat Your Face
I did debt collection briefly and the worst thing I ever did with a customer was sound pretty grouchy on the phone when it took me TEN calls to reach a debtor. All they had to do was answer the phone the first time and offer to pay me SOMETHING on their debt. If they did that I would have been the nicest person in the world. Even if they could have only given me $10 a week on their debt I would have been happy. I worked with small personal loans so $10 a week would have made a difference on someone's balance.
White House: Docs Need Training Before Prescribing OxyContin & Other Painkillers
I just went to the ER yesterday for a severely sprained ankle and the doc was surprised when I turned down her offer for something for the pain while I was waiting for x-rays. I have a high pain tolerance so I told her not to worry about it. She was going to prescribe me a narcotic for the pain but I also turned her down on that because the last time I took a narcotic pain reliever it made me VERY restless and irritable. I had to be on Vicodin for 2 months after a major surgery and took as little as possible because it had me pacing the floor and blowing up at anyone who annoyed me in the slightest. I'm bipolar so it probably has something to do with that. The doc ended up giving me a weeks worth of Ultram which is a mild opiate. I've never had a bad reaction to opiates so I tried one and it took away the pain but I didn't feel strange on it. I think the doc was comfortable prescribing it because my ankle was so black and blue she originally thought that I had broken it. Apparently I tore a couple of ligaments.
Mother Claims 4-Year-Old Served Boozy Mudslide Instead Of Milkshake At Chili's
This is just as fishy as the whole sticky pedal thing that caused Toyota problems.
When I was about 3 or 4 I remember one of my alcoholic uncles giving me a sip of beer at a family gathering. It was so disgusting that I spit it out! To this day (I'm 25 now) I still don't like beer. Give me a Long Island iced tea any day but beer, no way. My husband is a beer snob (the cheapest thing he'll drink is Rolling Rock) and always wants me to try the newest import he's found, I'll take a small sip but I usually don't like it.
I like how another commenter posted the press release from Chili's. Based upon that, I have a feeling mommy dearest is lying out of her rear.
Before Taking That Hotel Towel Home, Check For An RFID Chip
For all the towel stealers out there, whenever my husband and I go to a hotel on vacation and we decide to "do the nasty" while there, we do it on a towel to keep the sheets clean. So the towels that you're stealing might just have had a bit of our DNA on them at one point :):) We recently stayed at the hotel Edgewater at the Aquarium in Gatlinburg, TN for a weekend church marriage retreat, so if you stole towels from them in the past few days, you might want to throw them out. Mwahaha! They weren't good towels anyway. The cheapos I bought 5 years ago from a closeout store are nicer, even after 5 years of continuous use. We have 4 and its just the two of us so statistically the towels are used every other day.
We actually avoid sleeping directly on the sheets in hotels because of all of the icky things that may have been on them at one point.

Citing Fuel Costs, Southwest Will Cut Flights Next Year
My husband and I NEED the Huntsville, AL to BWI route for our Christmas travel. If they cut the route, we'll probably have to drive to Nashville to fly north on a non-stop flight. All of our family is in Delaware so a flight to BWI or Philly is a must.
