SOPA Sponsor Accuses Wikipedia Of Spreading Misinformation
DMCA! zing!
It's a good point, look at how the DMCA has been used to shut down so many things not to mention the fact that filing a DMCA takedown request on material that you don't own doesn't seem to have any consequences.
The part that drives me crazy though is how SOPA/PIPA are doing an end run around any kind of judicial process to get what they want. It essentially says once you're on their list your guilty until you can prove otherwise which seems completely backwards to US law.
Would You Do Your Holiday Shopping At A Pawn Shop?
Voted "Sure. A deal is a deal"
I just picked up a couple of nice electric guitars an Ibanez and a EPS at a pawn shop for super cheap for a couple friends I've been teaching guitar to, but didn't have their own guitars. After cleaning them up, replacing the strings and adjusting the action and intonation they sound great. I picked them up for about 1/3 of what they would have cost new and the Ibanez had it's electronics and bridge swapped out with gear that costs more than the original guitar would have cost (guessing the pawn shop had no idea about the upgraded electronics). So you can get some smoking deals, but it's probably best you have a solid knowledge of what you want to buy if you have hopes of getting a great deal. Since it usually means doing a little work on it to make it perfect. I've also bought quite a few beat up guitar and bass amps from pawn shops spent a weekend repairing them and then turned around and sold them for double what I paid for them once they were working flawlessly. I miss living in a larger city, I used to live in Phoenix and they had a pawn shop that only dealt in music gear. Since they knew their stuff the prices were generally very accurate for what you were going to get depending on how beat up it was, but they had so much vintage equipment that it was and still is one of my favorite pawn shops I've ever been to.
UPDATED: Ebates Refuses To Pay Out Cash Back Credits After I Make Big Purchases
Never been a fan or mail in or get money back later Rebates. I've filled out many and took high res pics of all the material only to be denied for not including the original receipt which I had included and had no way to send in after the fact since they already had it. Because of this I've always assumed the mail in rebate system was scammy at best.
Americans Earning Less Vacation Days, Won't Even Use All Of Them
We're allowed to cash in our vacation time at my job so after a few years I had a little over 200 hours of leave so I went on a week long vacation/roadtrip and cashed in two weeks of leave for spending money and still had close to 100 hours left over. My boss grumbled about me leaving for a week and I pointed out to him how I managed to accrue so much leave, because I was rarely sick and hadn't taken a vacation in 3 years. He still acted annoyed, but finally signed off on it.
I really need to find a new job...
Where To Get Free Books For Your E-Reader
Yup, the "aus" site for Project Guttenberg has quite a few more public domain books. I check it out every so often.
Most of those books were Public Domain before the late 70's in the US when they drastically changed the way copyright works due to lobbying and a lot of hyperbole tossed around by the media giants and that's still going on to this day with them trying to continue to extend copyright laws even further. So yeah, I do ignore copyright law in some aspects. Some laws are just that laws... doesn't always mean they're right. If every person that has ever made a copy of an article for a school project on a copy machine and every person that's hummed a tune to themselves in a public setting or downloaded an old Public Domain book was arrested for not checking with the licensing authority before doing so we would probably find a majority of the US in jail. So it's my opinion the laws don't match the current reality.
Be A Better Cubemate When You Head Back To Work
I get grilled by my boss anytime I call in sick with questions about what i have and am I sure I can't come into work. Now we have a reasonable leave system at my job and I have hundreds of hours accrued because I don't get sick very often and haven't taken a vacation in four years yet on the rare, random day I wake up with a headache and snot pouring out of my nose I have to justify my sick request for a sick day to my boss over the phone. Usually with him asking me multiple times if I'm sure I can't make it in to work today.
One time I called in super sick about a year and a half ago and my boss was "very concerned" that I couldn't come in that day and asked me if I was certain there was no way I could come in to work that day. So feeling like dog**it I go into work, the first time my boss calls me for some "IT" help I walk into his office with snot all over my upper lip from the constant draining. He tells me the problem he's experiencing as he does this I bring my hand up to my face and wipe away all the snot from my face and then with gross snotty hand commence to touch everything on his desk that i can. I left his keyboard covered in snot when I left, so glad I have a new boss now.

"Competitive Shopper" Pepper Sprays Fellow Black Friday Shoppers At California Walmart
Pizza and Pepper spray should both be considered vegetables.... waiting for congress to get off their fat asses and do something about it!
I didn't pepper spray you, I just dosed your face with vegetables. Now quit crying and flailing on the ground like a baby or I'll add on resisting arrest!
Reasons Not To Buy Video Games At Launch
I'll buy new online multiplayer games, just because a good multiplayer game I'll end up playing for the next year or so off and on, but for nearly everything else I generally try to wait until they either hit the bargin bin or reach "Greatest Hits" status and drop down to $20.
I have friends who every fall when the new games come out end up buying each one they want on release day. They end up with so many games they don't touch those $60 games until spring or summer at which point they could of bought most of them for around $30-$40. Right now I'm buying the single player games I never got around to purchasing last year. Fallout New Vegas for $20, yes please!

Xbox Live Bans User For Getting Hacked
Get the blizzard authenticator for smartphone or an authenticator key fob. I kind of wish Steam had something like that as well since I have hundreds of dollars of games I've bought on there over the last 10 years so a two step authentication would give some peace of mind. If I lost that Steam account..... yeah I'd freak out.
