L.A. Bans Plastic Supermarket Shopping Bags

Why is this news? Practically every city in California has banned them for 2012. Sunnyvale did, and it kind of sucks because I never even saw plastic bags contributing to litter. Everyone I knew reused them as trash can liners. I carry a ton of reusable Trader Joes bags but I keep using them to carry things into my 3rd story walkup and then end up the next week at the store with no bags, which suuuuucks.

What Peeves You Most When You Eat At A Restaurant?

Oh, one more. I tend to set my empty glass on the edge of the table so the waiter can see we need service. I've assumed this is normal and polite, and have seen others do it. But there is not seeing your waiter again for an hour and eating your meal while thirsty :/

What Peeves You Most When You Eat At A Restaurant?

I'm pretty easy going, I expect that while going out in public, there will be chaos. What really bothers me is when at a nice restaurant (and not, say, Dennys), kids are running around going crazy, and the parents completely ignore them. Take them outside to calm down, or don't take them to a *nice* restaurant. I understand it must suck to not go nice places with kids, but get a sitter, or go somewhere more kid friendly. I didn't go out to a fancy place to feel like I'm at a Chucky Cheese. I feel bad speaking up because I don't like to tell people how to handle their kids - I'm not a parent, and it's not my place, so I'm more likely to say something to the waitstaff who may or may not actually take action.

My only other real annoyance is when a waiter doesn't write any of my order down and inevitably screws it up. Especially when they try to say that I never mentioned my food allergy, which I clearly emphasized. And then everyone else has food, and I have to wait for it to be fully remade. I'm glad you want to look cool and not write our orders down, but 95% of the time, when waiters do this, my order comes back wrong.

My Dad's Neighbor Ate His Delicious Birthday Steaks, Omaha Steaks Fixes My Error

Omaha Steaks are pricey, but this experience seems pretty on par for their awesome customer experience. Not to mention how tasty they are. I'd say they're pretty worth it, as gifts go. I have access to some pretty great local organic grass-fed beef, but some of my family across the country doesn't.

City Tells Man He Can Build Tomato Garden, Then Decides It's Against The Law

Commented by kimmie:

Well, the contraption he built seems silly. Every real gardener knows tomatoes do not do well in the upside down planters because they still want to grow toward the sun. It sounds like if he had planted an actual garden or raised beds, it wouldn't have been as much issue as erecting some weird structing to hang the tomatoes from. That said, always get things in writing. Not blaming the OP, but it sounds like the city didn't really understand what he was doing when they said it wouldn't be a problem.

New CDC Study Reveals A Third Of Young White Adult Women Get Tans Indoors

Here's the thing - my doc keeps telling me to wear LESS sunscreen because my vitD is chronically low. I don't go out of my way to tan, in fact, I drive a convertible. I asked her about the cancer risk and she said basically everything will give us cancer and we need to find a balance. I don't know if she was being down to earth, or crazy.

Stuck In Mexico Without Any Bags Thanks To Gate-Checked Carryon

I refuse to gate check because the airlines own insurance policy won't cover the stuff in my bag. I just keep repeating that to the stewardesses until they give up. That said, I also make sure it can fit under the seat in front of me because of the jackasses that bring oversized bags onboard to avoid paying for checked luggage. Flying sucks.

THIS. Eating out is next to impossible and I always feel like a jackass when my friends invite me out/over. I was diagnosed with my corn allergy about 5 yrs ago, and while my quality of life is much better when I'm not having anaphylaxis all the damn time, my social life suffers a smidge.

You have to admit, it really blows though. Just once, I wish I didn't have to be the jackass to reject all of the restaurant suggestions from friends just so I can be social while we eat.

Netgear and D-Link for starters. But don't ask me, I have 4 pieces of enterprise class network gear in my living room.
