Yeah the original article was actually touting the ingenuity of the foreman for getting that done. Unbelievable.

Yeah, the implication there is that Apple should spend some of it's billions of cash to make the working conditions better.

Well, sort of.

Foxconn is not state owned, in fact its ownership is in Taiwan, which China considers a rogue break-off.

I've got to find them, but I remember reading various articles that the Chinese government is just as pi$$ed off about this as everybody else; they've threatened Foxconn several times with sanctions and shut downs if they don't improve conditions in their plants.

Although of course Foxconn pays a lot of taxes to China, so China isn't about to shut them down. But I don't think the Chinese are going to be the ones to pull the trigger if the workers revolt.

Yeah, I think that article that HB quoted is a bit inaccurate (it is an OpEd piece, after all). Supposedly only mortgages that were fully carried by the bank and not backed by Fannie and Freddie are eligible.

I'm always suspect of OpEd pieces, here's a good reason why.

Of course the Republicans don't like it. It presents a positive message about America. TThey want to oust Obama at any cost. They can't oust Obama if you feel good about America. Ergo, they hate the commercial.

Should Your Driving Record Impact Your Homeowner's Insurance?

Everyone, from the 17 year old kid who has already been in 2-3 accidents to the 45 year old who hasn't had an accident in 29 years?

Auto insurance is about the risk of the driver, as well as the cost of the car. A driver with a propensity to drive recklessly should definately pay more than a driver who is careful.

That said, I don't agree that homeowners insurance history should impact auto insurance rates.

I don't disagree with you but just FYI both of your examples are non-tax generated payouts... unemployment is state-by-state insurance program that is funded by premiums paid by employers, while you could argue that those premiums are a "tax", in the truest sense of the word the state's general tax funds are not used to fund them. And lottery payouts... really? 100% funded by gamblers...
